Events in soccer show that it is necessary to confront the issue of homophobia more actively within the sport, and that managers, athletes, coaches, referees, associations, fan clubs, sponsors, academics and the media must be part of the process. „Soccer Against Homophobia“ is committed to this goal.

The Network Soccer against Homophobia brings Fans, athletes, officials and media together
Homosexuality in soccer is one of the last taboos in our society. The soccer sport has only just begun to confront the problem of homophobia within its own ranks. A positive and open approach to the homosexuality of participants does not yet exist. The Media Sciences graduate Joerg Litwinschuh – a professional communications consultant and media researcher – founded the network of experts „Soccer Against Homophobia“ in March 2010. He has been active in the lesbian and gay movement for over 20 years. Litwinschuh predicts: „Outings in soccer will affect the emancipation of gays and lesbians even more than the outings by (the famous German activist-filmmaker) Rosa von Praunheim, the self-outing of Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit and the introduction of gay marriage in Germany.“
Events in soccer show that it is necessary to confront the issue of homophobia more actively within the sport, and that managers, athletes, coaches, referees, associations, fan clubs, sponsors, academics and the media must be part of the process. „Soccer Against Homophobia“ is committed to this goal.
