Hungarian Authorities ban the CSD Parade

The same argument as in 2007 is used a justification: The parade would lead to a deterioration of vehicle traffic on the busy Andrássy út. However, last year seemed that seemed to be no problem for the Budapest police. The organizers therefore speak of 'arbitrary authority'.

In September last year, a short parade route (- Kodály körönd - octagon - Opera - Andrássy út, Erzsébet) was initially approved. In January, the organizers wanted to extended the route but to Kossuth tér and adapt it to the route used prior to 2007. After all, it is necessary to protest against the ban on gay marriage in the Hungarian Constitution. The route along the Kossuth tér, where the Hungarian Parliament is located, had been prohibited, because of an exhibition that's being held there at the same time. So the organizers agreed to end the parade at the corner of Alkotmány utca / let Kossuth. This seemed to be a good compromise. On the last day of the deadline, the Hungarian Authorities prohibited the entire parade route. The reasoning is the same as in 2007: The parade would impede too much on the busy traffic at Andrássy út. Even though the parade route was leading last year along Andrássy út. The organizers protested vehemently against the decision and speak of arbitrary authority. If there will be an compromise or not is not quite clear yet. The decision of the Authorities is final, the only option left for the organizers would a lawsuit against the Authorities.
