Interview with Thomas von Aust, creator of "Warehouse"

SIS: Thomas, you're with 'Chantal's House of Shame "at work, you have something to do with" Cityboy, "you do and" Warehouse ", then there's the event" poets and writers vs. "Camp". Boder Lines ". Bring me something light on this issue.
Thomas: I started at the "House of Shame", where I am now managing director. Chantal was the first person I met in Berlin. We became friends through our shared passion for Wagner and Strauss operas. The first party, with which I started my own together with Aviv was "Cityboy. With which we are taking a break, because we go with the party in March to Tel Aviv and the target there for the first time and see how it has gone down since. The second project, which is then run almost incidentally, was "a poet and writer vs. Borderlines, "a small series of readings in the living room to the Wilde Renate, which I organize with Andrea Black. Then I started late last fall with "Warehouse" in the ZMF, I'm with Mary Psycho. The latest is "Camp" in the ballroom with Eigk of the "Neon Raiders.

an you again the concept of the Party "warehouse" to explain?
he concept of "Warehouse" is that we want to bring together art and electronic dance music. But not at a level at which I have experienced this more often that you just hinhängt only a few works of art. Art and party with us are absolutely equal footing.

ow do you decide whether an artist or an artist to "warehouse" fit?
is crucial that there are artists who are connected to the nightlife. We want no one to force the party is pure, whose art we find good, but which we know well that he or she will not feel well in the club area. The art in "warehouse" must to some extent be striking. Small piece does not just there. This is the night when someone comes along only two or three clock and not quite sober, he or she may not have the feeling that they now need to focus insane.

Why is it ever a party the right place for art?
n itself, art and party have nothing to do with each other, in my opinion. If one chooses specific art, then that is a wonderful addition and can assess a party absolutely higher. Especially in such a city like Berlin, where everything is music offered. People are not necessarily interested in going to just because of the music to a party, they want to see something special

Your latest project is the party with Eigk "camp" in the ballroom of Kreuzberg. Like "queer", the term "camp" is essentially difficult to grasp. In Susan Sontag's "Notes on, camp '" Among others, the novels of Ronald Firbank tuckigen or feather boas called camper canon. Why "Camp" was the right name?
For me the name and Eigk had two meanings. First, the classical concept of the camp, for which there is a very nice definition: Popularity plus plus vulgarity innocence. For us, this is reflected in the queer-electronic music. We have DJs such as Schwefelgelb, Yasmin Gate and Electrosexual who are proficient in the electronic scene, but at the same time come from the punk and trash area. On the other, Camp in the literal sense: with the wonderful ballroom Kreuzberg offers a kind of playground, a camp for party organizers and party collectives. From next time we want to invite parties from other cities, people from London, Paris and Warsaw.
