Is Berlin becoming 'Uber-Gay' ?

That gays and lesbians are part of a target group that has been discovered by many companies in recent years is well known by now. Homosexuals - whether singles or couples - are considered affluent. They are spending more money than others in the leisure industry and go up to five times a year on vacation.

At the International Tourism Convention (ITB) in Berlin that trend is quite clear. This is the first time it has its own "Gay & Lesbian Travel" sector at the exhibition area (GAYS.DE reported) and in many corners you can hear from many companies and hoteliers how "gay friendly" they are.

"Are you ready for this?"

In the near future the German capital is expected to undergo a small change in image. Berlin is presenting itself as the, center of the world '- as a magnet for tourists from all over the world, as a vibrant metropolis, as Mecca is to multi-cultural and even the Trash-Exclusivity. However, to be able to belong to the gay and lesbian elite, Berlin is getting 'gayer' in the coming years. At least one project of the German National Tourist Board wants to market Berlin as 'uber-gay'.
According to Media reports there are poster images in existence, that show Berlin in a traditional metropolis and cultural way but also in a way that can best be described as being "über-gay".

Why the new campaign builds on this exaggeration?? People responsible for the campaign justify it that way: Other countries cook hotter, wash whiter and over exaggerate how relaxing their travel arrangements are. "We only give the tourists what they want".
