Civil Union is very popular with bi-national couples

The Registered Partnership (EP) is very popular for bi-national couples. This is clear from the official figures of Statistics Austria.

So had last year at 192 couples one partner does not have Austrian citizenship. This is more than a quarter of the 705 couples who have entered into an EP. The alien law was adapted to the introduction of the EP, registered partners from abroad enjoy the same rights as non-Austrian spouse.

The majority of these partnerships, namely 117 was closed in Vienna. Then follow with 21 Lower Austria and Upper Austria with 12 registered are partnerships where one partner is Austrian.

In 18 partnerships both partners were from abroad. Also here is Vienna with 14 pairs of leaders, two foreign couples gave themselves in Lower Austria and Styria the knot.

The proportion of registered partners with a migrant background is much higher: in 1409 because of the gays and lesbians who gave themselves in 2010, tied the knot, 303 were not born in Austria, had 75 of them during the registration of the Austrian nationality.
